Fernando Ortiz or “Tongo” as he is known by all his fellow musicians, started his musical career at the early age of 14 years old in Guadalajara, Jalisco. By the age of 21, Fernando joined Mariachi Sol de Mexico de Jose Hernandez where he began his musical career as a Professional Mariachi Trumpet player. As the years went by he worked with many prestigious Mariachi groups from Guadalajara, Jalisco to Los Angeles, CA. and was eventually asked to be part of Mariachi Los Camperos de Nati Cano. He has had the opportunity to perform alongside famous artists as Vicente Fernandez, Alejandro Fernandez, Pepe Aguilar, Christian Castro, Gloria Trevi, Lupillo Rivera, Aida Cuevas & Lila Downs....just to name a few. Also having the privilege to record for Vicente Fernandez, Alejandra Orozco, Azucena la de Jalisco, Natalia Jimenez(Quinta Estación). It has always been Fernando’s dream to one day form his own group. Now he is living his dream and continuing his passion through Mariachi Mi San Diego.
